TEA IN TIMBERLAND | The summer tea event will be held in the timber hall in the heart of the village and will be held on Saturday 12th June 2010 from 2pm-5pm. Afternoon tea adults £5.00 and children £2.00
During times of recession, we all need comfort and there's nothing more nostalgic that a hearty brew in a china cup and saucer with a few cakes and some great company on a summer afternoon in a country village. Afternoon Tea has been a long and well loved tradition and is about to make a huge comeback thanks to a campaign organised by Country Living Magazine.
Three local residents Shirley M. Dee, Michaela Bere and Judith Leeper have got together to bring the classic Afternoon Tea to Timberland and will be holding their summer event on Saturday 12th June 2010
Promoting the nostalgic event of "Taking Tea at Timberland", adults tea will be served on vintage cake stands with bone china ware, homemade scones with jam and cream, sandwiches ( including cucumber!) fruit cake and lemon and violet sponge plus other yummy assortments!
Shirley Dee, one of the organisers says "We will be adding all of those small touches including china cups, teapots, tablecloths, bunting, plenty of homemade cakes, food and produce with a great atmosphere. The tables will be laid with beautiful tablecloths and decorated with fragrant flowers from the garden and soothing music in the background. There will even be a special tea for children too with real cloudy lemonade, butterfly cake and sandwiches."
Shirley and her two colleagues will be busy baking cakes to fill the cakestands, arranging the flowers in galvanised containers and making bunting, as well as cooking up some homemade chutneys, pies and rallying around the locals to make the day a memorable one.
And if cake isn't your cup of tea, they will also be selling, a variety of ready made meals for dinner/supper savoury tarts, desserts, specialty breads, cake selection, jams, homemade fudge, preserves, pickles, lemon curd, eggs, honey, asparagus potatoes and seasonal veg and fruit.
Where possible everything will be made with free-range or organic products, without chemicals and is made or produced locally. The event will also have a prize drawer for a Local produce hamper worth £50.00
Michaela Bere says "We are doing this because we adore food, growing making and eating, and we believe that food brings people together, especially with a village community".
